Crown Chakra Enlightenment: Sahasrara's Path to Spiritual Awakening

The final of the seven main chakras that run from the spinal base to the crown through the body’s core is the Sahasrara.

More commonly known as the crown chakra, its located above the head. Some place it slightly above the head’s crown, while others put it on the fontanelle, the soft spot on a baby’s head. It’s here where the soul is believed to exit the body after death.

Either way, the Sahasrara, as the culmination of the seven chakras, is the most sensitive and subtle.

However, while potent, it doesn’t serve us if the six preceding chakras are unbalanced or blocked. A sound root chakra, or Muladhara, in particular, is essential for a balanced and healthy crown chakra.

The Sahasrara is the seat of transformation and spiritual consciousness.

We’ll explore the crown chakra and the crystals that support its vibrational energy for well-being and healing.

Understanding the Crown Chakra

The Sanskrit word Sahasrāra loosely translates to thousand-petaled or thousand-petaled lotus.

As the seat of transformation and consciousness, it encompasses our entire life journey from the cradle to the grave. The crown chakra is the source of our quest for spiritual knowledge and self-knowledge that exists beyond the thinking mind.

Here, we discover our higher self and reconnect with the Divine, the Universe, and the spirit world after our incarnation to the physical world. This reconnection is vital to living a happy and balanced life.

Maintaining a healthy Sahasrara allows us to access the wisdom of Divine guidance while still actively participating in the physical world.

Unfortunately, many people, especially those just beginning their quest for spiritual knowledge, are fascinated by the crown chakra without understanding the chakra system. When we develop the Sahasrara at the expense of the remaining six, we can end up disconnected from reality.

To maintain healthy chakras, it’s crucial to systematically work from the base or root chakra to the crown. Otherwise, what we believe to be Divine guidance or spirit communication could be nothing more than an illusion. Poor decisions and irrational thinking can make life very difficult if that happens.

Associations

Traditionally, the Sahasrara is symbolized by an open lotus flower with 20 layers of 50 petals in all colors that blend to appear white or violet. The center comprises a golden circle containing a luminous upward or downward-pointing triangle.

Some depictions of the crown chakra show an Om symbol in the triangle, while others don’t. That’s because, in Hinduism, Om symbolizes the absolute—all that was, is, and will be. There is no sound associated with the Sahasrara—it is pure silence.

This is the domain of the supreme deity, Lord Shiva, and his consort, Parvati. Shiva is stillness, teaching interconnection of the Self and the Universal Self and reigning over meditation and yoga—all in absolute silence.

No elements are associated with the crown chakra—it is the place of pure consciousness.

Physically, the Sahasrara is associated with the top of the head, thought, the pineal gland, and the nerve plexuses.

Symptoms of a Blocked or Unbalanced Crown Chakra

Because the crown chakra is the seat of spiritual consciousness, we lose touch with our spirituality when it’s out of balance.

Symptoms of an unbalanced or blocked Sahasrara include:

  • fear of God and God’s punishment
  • spiritual ignorance and rejection of spiritual practices
  • rigid thinking around external religion
  • denying spiritual potential or presence
  • believing an inevitable set future path is pre-arranged
  • a sense of powerless over the future
  • reliving the past with regret, guilt, or anger
  • continuous suffering and lack of peace of mind
  • over-attachment to possessions and the physical world
  • disconnectedness from the world and the Divine
  • feeling wronged and victimized by life and others
  • little regard or consideration for how life and others are treated
  • self-absorption, cynicism, need to control, and blind selfishness

Conversely, a healthy crown chakra is experienced through:

  • the ability to let go and have faith that things will work out
  • gaining and utilizing wisdom in everyday life
  • feeling connected to others, the divine, and the universe
  • accessing and living by divine guidance
  • the capacity to transcend problems, materialism, and striving

An unbalanced or blocked crown chakra frequently leads to victim thinking and feelings of powerlessness combined with rigid stubbornness and inertia. As a result, people become stuck and unable to change their circumstances. Multiple opportunities may present themselves, but the person cannot see them, so their suffering, dissatisfaction, and bitterness perpetuates.

In these cases, balancing the Sahasrara leads to spiritual transformation and the begging of spiritual awakening.

Healing the Crown Chakra with Crystals

Crystals are excellent for healing the Sahasrara for various reasons.

There’s no need to know much about crystals to harness their powerful healing energy. Also, they continue working 24/7/365 once programmed with an intention. Finally, they’re small, discreet, and uncomplicated, so you can easily wear crystals as jewelry or tucked into a pocket or purse.

The Top 5 Best Sahasrara Crystals

Amethyst

Amethyst is a semi-translucent purple quartz widely used to bridge the third eye and crown chakras. For many, it’s a gateway to the unconscious mind and the Divine. It’s a stone of contemplation, contentment, meditation, peace, and spirituality. Amethyst brings heightened awareness and deep relaxation. Keeping amethyst close when sleeping improves sleep quality and can enhance dream work.

Use it when unsettled, distracted, and dissatisfied to open the way to the peace of mind and calm necessary for chakra work.

Fluorite

Fluorite comes in shades of pale blue, green, and purple, all of which can benefit the crown chakra. It’s a stone of aptitude and discernment that brings a unique energy to meditation. All fluorite can be used on the path to spiritual awakening, and green fluorite boosts intuition. However, blue and purple are best for stimulating and healing the Sahasrara.

Use it to clear the mind and remove the self-deception that creates unacceptance and mental blocks that prevent chakra healing.

Labradorite

Protective labradorite echoes the iridescent colors of the aurora borealis. It contains the power of the Universe and awakens intuition and psychic abilities. Blue and purple-dominated stones work exceptionally well with the crown chakra. Labradorite opens the Sahasrara while also keeping it protected.

Use it to ward off negativity, such as self-sabotaging thoughts or cynicism towards life and others.

Lapis Lazuli

Colored the deep blue of the night sky, lapis lazuli stimulates creativity, mental clarity, and clear self-expression in communication. The ideal companion stone for self-discovery, it guides you inward to discover your true Self. Lapis lazuli enhances awareness and psychic order, brings wisdom, and offers protection to the soul seeker. It exposes the power of words and their impact on you and others.

Use it for conscious communication when lacking wisdom and self-knowledge and the inability to access inner wisdom or Self.

Moonstone

Moonstone radiates with a gentle, loving, feminine energy. Don’t be fooled, though. There’s nothing timid about this stone. All moonstones are bathed in the white lunar energy of the full moon that illuminates the night sky and liberates us from blockages in all chakras. It’s also excellent for balancing emotions and building self-esteem. Moonstone is ideal for new beginnings, letting go, and embracing change. It reminds us of the impermanent nature of life and encourages acceptance of change as the natural state of flow.

Use it when battling to accept life’s cyclical nature and to break attachments to limiting beliefs, people, and things.
