Bluebells in Witchcraft: Magickal Properties and Uses

We all know plants are essential tools for Witches because flowers have varying uses and are as close to nature as a Witch can get. Bluebells are beautiful blue flowers shaped like hanging bells with wonderful magickal properties that any Witch should try to add to their magickal tools, whether you are a Garden Witch or not. If you have never used bluebells before, fret not, as you are not alone. Sit back and relax, and we will learn together how useful bluebells can be to the starting or seasoned Witch.

What a Bluebell Is and How to Grow Them

Bluebells are bell-shaped perennial herbs. They are bright blue and stand out sharply in the gardens they bloom in. Each flower has six bell-shaped petals with narrow strap-shaped, smooth, and hairless pointed tips. They are sweet-smelling and have cream-colored white pollen inside. They bloom mainly from mid-April to late May. They spend the majority of their growth period underground in bulbs, and once their blooming season arrives, they burst from the ground in beautiful blooming bells.

Bluebells are native to Western Europe, with the United Kingdom being their main blooming spot. They are common in locations called ancient woodlands. Ancient woodlands are, just as the name says, woodland that has been around for centuries and developed a special community of plants and animals that are not found anywhere else. In fact, if a bluebell is blooming in the wild, you are more than likely guaranteed to be near ancient woodland. They can also grow along hedgerows and in open fields.

Bluebells are great choices for gardens that are partially shaded. They attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, which can lead to a bustling garden. To grow bluebells, plant the bulbs about two inches deep and twelve inches apart during autumn. So long as they get adequate sun, you should have bluebells sprouting by the following spring. If you plant just the seeds, though, you will only get leaves the next spring and will not see any flowers blooming until five years later. You also want to be sure that you regularly weed your garden, as young bluebells are sensitive to competition and can be wiped out instantly before you even notice it.

Magickal Uses for Bluebells

Bluebells have multiple magickal uses, all correlating to emotions and how to create better emotional ties with those around you.

Bluebells are ideal for spells revolving around truth-telling. If you are trying to figure out whether someone is speaking to you truthfully, make a wreath of bluebells and hang them over a doorway before the person in question passes through. You can also sneakily place some bluebell petals in the person’s bag or a charm bag and give it to them. The longer the person has bluebells around them, the more their truth will come out, and you will be able to trust them again without fear of being lied to again.

Bluebells will boost love spells exponentially. You can use the entire flower, or you can use just the petals. Sprinkle the petals on your altar when you perform the spell so that the flower’s energy will boost your spells and make the end results stronger. You will be able to gain the affection of your desired one without having to force them to fall in love with you. Remember, you never want to force anyone, as the affection you gain will not be positive.

Bluebells provide comforting energy and can settle any fears stirred up by your own mind. If you constantly have nightmares, stuff your pillow or stuffed toy with dried bluebell petals. The petals will create a barrier that will stop the nightmares before they can harm you. If you would rather not stuff petals in your pillow, you can string freshly bloomed flowers near your bed for the same comforting effect.

Bluebells are amongst the first few flowers that bloom at the beginning of spring, so they represent fertility and rebirth. Gift the flowers to your partner while trying to conceive a baby to boost fertility and have a higher chance of making a baby together. You can place the bluebells in the graves of those who have passed on to honor them and comfort them as they pass through the afterlife. The souls who touch the bluebells will be able to be reincarnated easier than other souls.

Another fun use for bluebells is to attract faeries. Bluebells are associated with the wind element due to their shape and airy nature, so when a faery passes near, they will shake as if they are bells being rung. They also make for great hiding spots, meaning that if you have some bluebells in your garden, you may have a faery peeking out at you. They do not make the best homes for faeries as they have sticky sap that is often used as glue, but they make a great temporary place for a faery to rest their wings or take shelter from bad weather. If you are aiming to attract lots of faeries into your garden, try to plant bluebells on the outside edge of your garden to get them to visit you.

Bluebells are fun to grow and cultivate to have at the ready when you need their magickal properties. Whether they be used in truth, love, or other useful spells, you will surely see that bluebells will make a major improvement in the spells they can aid you in. The best way to use bluebells is fresh, but if you need to use them dry, make sure that they are safely harvested and not out of greed. Once you know how to use bluebells, you will wonder why it took so long to add the plant to your green magick garden. Happy casting!
